| Ashiq Hussain Jatoi Ashiq Hussain Jatoi was born on August 14,1945 in Quetta. He
received hisearlier schooling from St. Francis Grammar School in
Quetta, and later completed his BSC from D.J. Science College
Karachi, followed by an M.A. from Karachi University and an LL.B.
degree (Bachelor of Law) from S.M. Law College. He represented
Pakistan in the Special Political Committee on the Policies of
Apartheid of the Government of South Africa in the United
Nations in October 1975, and was also associated with GM. Syed’s
Sindh Muttahida Mahaz in 1969-70. Ashiq entered mainstream
politics in 1977 when he was elected unopposed as an MPA from
PS-65 Dadu on a PPP ticket awarded by Shaheed Zulfikar Bhutto.
He was later instrumental in the Dadu chapter of the MRD
movement during which he was incarcerated at Hyderabad Central
Jail towards the end of 1983 – 84. He then parted ways with the
PPP and joined the National Peoples Party led by his brother in
law Mustafa Jatoi. After being disillusioned with the leadership
of that party he left the political arena. He then accepted the
invitation of Mir Murtaza Bhutto to join the PPP –SB party. Mir
Murtaza Bhutto had returned from exile after being elected MPA
in the 1993 elections. At the time of his murder September 20,
1996 Ashiq was the President of Sindh Chapter of PPP-SB.
Soon after his death his family discovered some words he had
written in his diary a few days prior to his death. They are as
follows:-
"It is not what happens to me that matters. It is how I
behave while it is happening to me that matters. Cool mind, warm
heart, clean hands"
